Additional Treatment for Arthritis at Naples-Clinic
- Evaluation to determine the severity of joint involvement includes an X-ray evaluation and grading of the Arthritic change.
- Non-surgical management of Arthritic change would include oral non-steroidal medications in the form of Ibuprofen, the dosage can be as high as 800 mg 3 times per day. The medication needs to be taken daily to maintain a blood level for the effect of the medication to be realized.
- Injection therapy is also an option for refractory cases of persistent Arthritic symptoms. Cortisone treatment is not the first line of management as it carries major side effects for joint surfaces. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) has been proven to decrease pain and inflammation from joint arthritis. Risks are low with its use and benefits are very high. PRP injections are given in a series of 3, one injection every other week. The benefits of PRP are not seen after 1 injection, but after the second injection and into the third. Activities are restricted to comfort. The series may be repeated as often as needed and does not need insurance pre-authorization.
- Amniotic stem cells are an advanced form of injection treatment with Allograft tissue. Wharton’s jelly is harvested at Cesarean births, collected by the tissue banks, and processed for injection into Arthritic joints. One treatment is usually needed.
- For multiple areas of Arthritic involvement i.e., neck, low back, hips, shoulders and hands, an IV therapy treatment is recommended. This therapy consists of antioxidants, glutathione, and exosomes. (Exosomes is an Amniotic fluid byproduct given as an IV treatment (Matrix)). Only one treatment may be required for arthritic pain relief.
- Our GOAL with arthritic management is COMFORT and FUNCTION. This will improve “Quality of Life”.
